Tenor Viol

The tenor viol is the middle-sized member of the viol family, and its primary use is in viol consorts, rarely being used outside of this genre. Viol consorts are unlike string quartets where the violins have the tune the majority of the time, as each instrument has equal parts, meaning that the tenor viol’s role in an ensemble is just as equal to its treble and bass counterparts. My instrument is made by the English luthier Jane Julier.
