Research

Hetti became interested in the research side of music when she became attracted to early music whilst studying at Birmingham Conservatoire. She developed a particular interest in all historical cello and viol type instruments, and their use in chamber performances.

This interest led her to accept a PhD place at the University of Birmingham, where she was offered a full scholarship to research Purcell’s bass violin (the predecessor of the cello), and its use in England. Since then she has published an article in the Delius Society Journal on the Delius Double Violin and Cello Concerto, and has given a talk at the ‘Music in Transition: Changing Styles and Approaches in the Mid-Baroque (1650-1710)’ symposium taking place at Birmingham Conservatoire 2015 on the violoncello da spalla.
